This funded internship position is aimed at supporting evidence-based conservation in Thailand. The goal of the placementis to encourage skills development specifically under the framework of ''Marine Conservation Research''. In Thailand, we have multiple universities and organisations offering training and courses in Marine Biology, Biological Oceanographyand Marine Conservation. However, the overlap between Research and Conservation is highly underrepresented, and Thai students rarely get the chance to get atargeted experience in this essential field. Not just the research of complex biology and discovery, but asking the kinds of questions that can help us best support our natural world. Not just the participating in conservation action,but understanding how to do research to benefit conservation planning andevidence-based decision making.
Internship Period: October – December 2026
Scholarship Stiped: 15,000THB p/month for 5 days a week
Internship Location: Bangkok (and Beyond)! The internship position will be carried out at the offices of Love Wildlife Foundation, in Bangkok. However, approximately 30% of the duration of the internship will have the successful candidate participating in fieldwork and lab work across multiple different provinces in the Gulf of Thailand.
Candidate Requirements:
· This opportunity is only open to Thai nationals
· This internship is aimed at recent students and graduates, and early-career professionals, interested in a career in Marine Conservation Research
· The internship will be conducted in English, so high degree of conversational and written English is required
· This opportunity is not open to be conducted online. Applicants must already be, or willing to be, based in the Bangkok area.
· The associated scholarship stipend is intended to meet the living needs of the candidate for the duration of the internship, including any accommodation, daily commutes etc. These living needs will not be provided or included, it is the responsibility of the candidate to facilitate their needs.
· This internship does not indicate or imply any further employment within the Aow Thai Marine Ecology Center or the broader Love Wildlife Foundation.
The successful applicant will be required to contribute their time to take on certain academic responsibilities. All responsibilities will be based on the candidate's aptitude and capacities, from the following included opportunities:
· Training: The successful applicant will receive lectures and training pertaining to various marine biology and ecology concepts, including (but not limited to):
o Sea Turtle Biology, Identification and Monitoring
o Coral Conservation Theory and Practice
o Artificial Reef Construction and Design
o Biofouling and Coral Competition
· Fieldwork: The three-month internship will include approximately 20 days of fieldwork opportunities, including data collection and skills training
o Artificial reef structure deployment
o Biological sample collection
o Coral Conservation Monitoring
o Coral Reef Fish Ecology
· Labwork: Throughout the internship, there will be multiple oppurtunities to observe and practice technical laboratory skills that may benefit various biodiversity conservation projects.
o Coral-killing Sponge identification and microscopy
o Laboratory techniques to asses photosynthetic performance of corals (hosted by COCC at PSU campus, Hat Yai)
o Micro-CT scanning and analysis
· Science Communication: Various outreach and Sci-Comm opportunities will be made available during the internship period. The successful candidate will be given the opportunity to develop skills in:
o Public Speaking on a Marine Conservation Science issue/topic
o Written public engagement via social media and a short written article on the ATMEC website
o Participating in multiple Sci-Comm events management
