Wet-n-Nerdy

Science Communication at it's finest

Announcing: Wet-n-Nerdy: Thailand Biodiversity Chats

A relaxed evening with snacks and beverages to learn about some of the latest (mostly marine for now) biodiversity research and conservation efforts happening in Thailand today!

Various practitioners and experts from a variety of backgrounds will share the good, the bad and the beautiful of the latest in biodiversity documentation and conservation across Thailand. We're happy to present events with a seriesof short talks, friendly discussion and QnA to bring the wilderness a little closer to home. If you are the kind of nerd like us, andthings like TED talks feel like fun, not homework, this may be for you!

- Topics range from new species discoveries and new habitats being studied, to species at risk and the complex interactions in the natural world.

- Speakers will always be a mix of Thai and non-Thai specialists but chats and presentations will be in English.

- Our cosy venue, MaBuHi café and bar, has a wide selection of food, beverages and other consumables! To encourage a relaxed conversation, we are hoping to keep events relatively small.

- The talks and discussion are aimed at a non-academic, non-technical audience! However, the themes may occasionally touch on sensitive topics and the space is also a bar so we'd prefer attendees be ages 16+

- Events are totally free but we encourage grabbing a drink and a snack to support the team! If you'd like to support any of the organisations or researchers doing this work, you're welcome to do so but this is not a requirement!

- Our amazing venue has a pair of adorable and friendly cats, that personally booked their attendance to the talks earlier than others. Of course, we must concede to our feline friends, so attendees with allergies, you’ve been warned!

ps: The format is like Pint of Science for those that know. But less structured and more chatty and wildlife-y

Our First Event: World Sea Turtle Day!

The 16th of June is World Sea Turtle Day!

So, it's a great excuse for us to kick off our first event by chatting about our swimmy teenage mutant friends. Join us to learn and chat about sea turtles in Thailand. Short, 15 minute talks with plenty of time for discussion, with the following speakers:

- Dr. Rahul Mehrotra (Aow Thai Marine Ecology Center, ATMEC)
"An introduction to sea turtles, where they live in the Gulf of Thailand, and how you can name a turtle!"

- Ms. Wan Chantavilasvong (Nature and City Scape Analytics, NACSA)
"Turtles Without Borders: Sea Turtles' life cycles are not bounded by borders and neither are their threats"

- Mr. Tim McCabe (Thai Ocean Academy)
"How the SCUBA diving community worked with scientists and veterinarians to track and rescue wild sea turtles in 2026"

This in-person only event will run from 7pm to 8:30pm and is an easy 2 minute walk from BTS UdomSuk. MaBuHi is a great space for those wanting to explore some artisanal chocolate, gin, wine and much more! While the venue has an outdoor smoking and hangout area (for those more interested in the dispensary part of the cafe), our event will be held indoors.

See you there!
